I was commissioned to work with a group of gifted and talented year 9 students to generate ideas for possible designs for public art for the new school building at The Ridings Federation Winterbourne International Academy. With my help, the students came up with a wide range of fabulous ideas, several of which included crowd sourcing input from their peers to make the designs as inclusive as possible. Ultimately two of their ideas were chosen by Senior Management to be developed into print ready vector designs. This piece, window decals of balloons and words, was inspired by Bristol’s links with (and the students love for) hot air balloons, combined with answers given by students in response to the question ‘what do you want to know?’ Reading their responses was enlightening! Narrowing down the selection to choose the ones to use on the window was possibly the hardest part of the project…
